If You Cannot Volunteer, Consider Donating Clothes and Household Goods

Clothing Donation

Volunteer Network OC is a platform to connect volunteers with organizations helping disadvantaged members of our society. Sometimes, however, you don’t have time to volunteer but want to help in some other way. In addition your time, many of our featured organizations need donations of gently used clothing and goods.

As we all get older, many families are in the position of having closets full of clothes from recently departed loved ones. Goodwill and the Salvation Army are always available to take those donations. Recently, however, a number of friends have asked if I know where they can donate and have their clothes go directly to those in need. Here are some of the organizations for those donations:

Clothing items can be dropped off at Journey Church at 4849 Alton Parkway, Irvine, CA 92604 on Tuesdays thru Thursdays from 9 AM to 2 PM at the church office or on Sundays from 9 AM to 12:30 PM. If you drop items off during the week, please call the church at 949-786-4849 to confirm someone will be there to accept them.

Clothing can also be dropped off at Irvine Woodbridge Storage on Friday from 2:00-5:00pm when they are sorting and organizing donated clothing. Help is also needed for packing clothing for the distribution on Saturday. The location is Woodbridge Storage at 5020 Barranca, Irvine, CA 92604. Google Maps doesn’t get you to the right location. Turn off of Barranca at the Carl’s Jr. Then take the first left. At the stop sign, turn right. Next stop sign, turn left.

Clothing items needed include:

  • Pants/shorts
  • Men’s belts
  • Shirts
  • Coats/jackets/sweatshirts/hoodies
  • Shoes
  • Socks
  • Underwear (new preferred)
  • Baseball style hats, beanies, summer hats
  • Gloves, scarves
  • Women’s sport bras/bras (gently used ok)
  • Women’s costume jewelry

Additional items needed for those living on the streets include:

  • Backpacks
  • Duffel bags
  • Rolling suitcases (only)
  • Women’s shoulder bags
  • Sleeping bags
  • Blankets
  • Yoga mats
  • Watches
  • Towels of all sizes
  • Soap/shampoo (travel size)
  • Toothbrushes/toothpaste

Friendship Shelter accepts donations of men’s and women’s clothing and shoes, office supplies, and non-perishable food items. If you’d like to make a donation, please call 949-494-6928.

  • Toiletries & hygiene items (regular sized shampoo & conditioner, deodorant, soap, toothbrushes & toothpaste, razors, etc.)

Working Wardrobes Working Wardrobes Logo

Working Wardrobes accepts best quality clothing on hangers to provide interview clothing for their clients. On Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020 at 5:50 a.m., a fire broke out at the Working Wardrobes headquarters located at 1851 Kettering Street, Irvine, California. Since the fire destroyed their location, Goodwill has opened their hearts and doors to provide the space to #RebuildWW. Please bring your donations to their temporary donation center at the Goodwill Fitness and Technology Center, located at 1601 E St. Andrew Place, Santa Ana, CA 92705. They are open Monday – Saturday, 10:00am – 2:00pm.
